Patient Rights and Responsibilities

As a patient, you have the right to:

  1. Receive information about patient rights and responsibilities.
  2. Be free from mental, physical, sexual and verbal abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  3. Assistance and consideration in the management of pain.
  4. Obtain the name and specialty of the physician or other healthcare providers responsible for providing or coordinating your care.
  5. Confidentiality of all records and communications to the extent provided by the law.
  6. Ask us to contact you in a confidential manner.
  7. Have all reasonable requests responded to promptly and adequately within the capacity of the Institute.
  8. Inspect your medical record and to receive a copy of the medical record as provided by Nevada law.
  9. Obtain past records of medical care when requested to do so.
  10. Privacy during medical treatment and the provision of care, within the capacity of the Institute.
  11. Be treated with dignity. Your care will not be affected by your religion, beliefs, cultural values, sex, age or financial status.
  12. Have prompt life-saving treatment in an emergency without discrimination or delay based on economic or payment concerns.
  13. Be informed consent to the extent provided by law.
  14. Reasonable and equal access to care.
  15. Considerate care that respects personal values and beliefs.
  16. Interpreters when there is a language, communication or hearing barrier.
  17. Participate in informed decision-making regarding care, advance directives and living wills.
  18. Make decisions regarding care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  19. To designate a representative decision-maker in the event that you are incapable of understanding a proposed treatment or procedure, or are unable to communicate your wishes regarding care.
  20. Register complaints and seek resolutions to problems through the Patient Relations Representative designated by the Institute.
  21. A multidisciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of disease and its complications.

As a patient, you have a responsibility to:

  1. Provide, to the best of your knowledge, accurate and complete information about present complaints, past illnesses, hospitalizations, medications and other matters related to your health.
  2. Follow the treatment plan developed with the provider.
  3. Follow rules and regulations affecting patient care.
  4. Be considerate of the rights of other patients and Institute personnel, as well as other patient’s and Institute property.
  5. Keep appointments or call when you are unable to keep them.
  6. Accept consequences for the outcomes if you do not follow the care, treatment and service plan.
  7. Promptly meet any financial obligation agreed to with the organization.
