Brighton Collectibles 2006 Breast Cancer Bracelet available Saturday September 30th
Brighton Collectibles is determined to beat last year's donation of $60,000
LAS VEGAS, NEV. September 29, 2006 - Brighton Collectibles, along with Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI), will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month this weekend with the sale of the 2006 Power of Pink Bracelet. To complement the effort, NVCI staff will provide in-store presentations about breast cancer prevention at the Brighton Collectibles store at The District at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson this Sunday and throughout Las Vegas during October.
The 2006 design breast cancer bracelet features sparkling pink aurora borealis Swarovski crystals. Lucky owners can tuck a photo of a loved one inside the bracelet's heart locket, and open it when they want to send somebody a wish or prayer. Other charms are inscribed with words that represent steppingstones to recovery - when we "accept," we open the door to "trust" and find "love" that will "heal." Along the way, we learn to "Be the inspiration." The bracelets are $50 and will be available for purchase during October, while supplies last.
Breast cancer affects everybody and Brighton Collectibles is determined to help find a cure. For the third year, Brighton Collectibles is partnering with NVCI and donating $10 for every breast cancer bracelet sold. In addition, in October all of Brighton's Las Vegas locations will be selling $2 raffle tickets for weekly drawings of a pink Brighton 22" wheeled carry-on valued at $500. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the raffle tickets will go to NVCI.
As part of this weekend's events, Janine McDonough, Avon Breast Health Navigator/Educator at NVCI, will be at The District at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson from noon until 4 pm Oct. 1, 2006 to talk with shoppers about the importance of breast health.
McDonough will be at other area Brighton stores through the month of October to talk about the importance of breast cancer prevention.
In Nevada, 1,600 women will develop breast cancer and about 320 will die of the disease in 2006. Nevada women rank 26th in the nation for breast cancer incidence and 19th for breast cancer deaths.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 212,920 women will be diagnosed with and 40,970 women will die of breast cancer in 2006.
Despite the importance of mammography, Nevada women are about 30 percent less likely to receive recommended mammograms. Only 70 percent of Nevada women have had a mammogram within the past two years, compared to 75 percent nationally.
"Bottom line is that mammograms and self examinations save lives and are safe and effective," McDonough said.
